Role of a barrister?

I am involved in a particularly acrimonious family law case (in a UK law territory). The other side have accused us of providing misleading information related to timing of certain events, but their allegations are completely unfounded. However, they have threatened to consult a Barrister to for advice. My question - is a "Barrister" the right person to give this type of advice? Have they got their legal terms confused?
