Dividends and Common Stock?

I am looking at investing into a new company and when I got the term sheet, it stated that NO DIVIDENDS SHALL BE PAYABLE UPON COMMON STOCK. What does that mean? Can I sell some of the stock once it goes public to get some of the investment back?
